Vigil for Christmas Eve
If it is desired to preface the midnight Eucharist of Christmas by a vigil, the following form may be used.
The Rite begins with the Service of Light, page 109 of the Prayer Book, using the Collect of the First Sunday after Christmas Day as the Prayer for Light. During the candle lighting, the seasonal Lucernarium (page ) or Psalm 113 may be sung. The Magnificat or a suitable hymn, such as “Of the Father’s love begotten,” may be substituted for Phos hilaron.
